Much like society, the sidewalk has cracks that people tend to ignore, unless it makes something disastrous happen. While this project is not necessarily this symbolic, it does bring attention to an issue the cities can solve (poor pavements), while making something beautiful in the process. Here in Cuyahoga Falls, sidewalks are uneven or have large cracks that have not been fixed in awhile. Filling the cracks not overly complicated and it is especially unique to each person doing the project. In essence this project is recycling and repurposing the things we typically ignore. By filling them you add a piece of art that attracts more attention to something not everyone thinks of from day to day. In the future it could inspire more incredible project for the CFHS Public Art Class.
In this project a mosaic is created in the sidewalk cracks using glass, mortar, clay (optional), or other small items. The mosaic could range from thematic to aesthetically pleasing while fixing the sidewalk. Creating a crack filled with mosaic glass creates a piece that will leave the world with one less crack in it. Below is the project that the CFHS Public Art Class did in late August and early September of 2019.
